Franz Kuhlmann

Franz Kuhlmann was a German manufacturer of precision drawing instruments, technical drafting tables and equipment for architects, engineers and designers. Founded in 1903 in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, the company became recognised for its high-quality engineering and innovative mechanical designs.

Throughout the 20th century, Kuhlmann produced a range of professional drawing equipment, including substantial cast iron drafting tables with adjustable wooden drawing boards. Designed for use in architectural practices, engineering workshops and technical drawing offices, these tables combined practical functionality with robust industrial construction.

Today, original Kuhlmann drawing tables are appreciated for their distinctive mechanical engineering, heavy cast iron frames and functional industrial design, representing an important period in the history of traditional technical drawing.

Condition Report

Fully restored and working, some patina to the board in the form of pin holes and light wear to the wood, also some paint chips to the counter weight. Usual wear due to the tables age and past use.

As with all of our products this product is an original piece and has lived a life before it arrived at Otto's HQ. It has been sympathetically restored by the Otto's team to ensure it has a life for many more years to come. All of our products will show signs of patina and cosmetic wear, this we believe is what gives our products their unique charm. If you have any further questions regarding the condition of this product or any others please don't hesitate to contact us and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
