Holophane

Holophane is a lighting manufacturer with origins in France during the 1890s, specialising in the development and production of innovative glass lighting and optical systems.

The company became particularly recognised for its patented prismatic glass technology, designed to control, diffuse and distribute light efficiently. Holophane expanded internationally during the early 20th century, establishing manufacturing operations in Britain and the United States.

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Holophane produced a wide range of architectural, industrial and commercial lighting, supplying fittings for factories, public buildings, offices and transport infrastructure.

The company was involved in several significant British lighting projects, including St Paul's Cathedral, Battersea Power Station and Westminster Abbey.

During the mid 20th century, Holophane continued to develop lighting designs combining functional engineering with advances in glass manufacturing and light distribution.

Original Holophane lighting remains recognised for its quality of manufacture, distinctive glasswork and contribution to 20th-century industrial and architectural lighting design.
