Spendia

Spendia was a Paris-based manufacturer specialising in industrial clocks and timekeeping equipment during the 20th century. Operating under the name Ateliers Spendia, the company was associated with industrial horology, producing functional timepieces intended for commercial, institutional and industrial environments.

Based at 34 Rue de Flandre in Paris, Spendia's designs reflected the practical requirements of industrial timekeeping, with an emphasis on legibility, durability and straightforward construction.

Their clocks are characterised by bold geometric numerals, contrasting dials and substantial metal casings. These restrained, utilitarian designs are closely aligned with the functionalist principles that influenced European industrial design during the early and mid-20th century.

Today, surviving Spendia clocks offer an interesting example of French industrial design, where practical engineering and strong graphic detailing combine to create objects that remain as visually relevant as they are functional.
