Singer

Singer Corporation is an American manufacturer of sewing machines, first established as I. M. Singer & Co. in 1851 by Isaac Merritt Singer with New York lawyer Edward Clark. Best known for its sewing machines, it was renamed Singer Manufacturing Company in 1865, then The Singer Company in 1963. It is based in La Vergne, Tennessee, near Nashville. Its first large factory for mass production was built in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1863.

The chairs Singer produced for use in Britains many textile factorys were exceptionally well engineered and designed. They are still hugely popular today with interior designers and anyone with an appreciation for the heyday of the machine age.

Condition Report

The metal parts have been lightly burnished and clear lacquered, the seat and back rest have some cosmetic in places.

As with all of our products this product is an original piece and has lived a life before it arrived at Otto's HQ. It has been sympathetically restored by the Otto's team to ensure it has a life for many more years to come. All of our products will show signs of patina and cosmetic wear, this we believe is what gives our products their unique charm.
