Strafor

The French company, Forges de Strasbourg, gets its start as a tool and steel structure manufacturer in 1919, leading on from the designs and work of Jewish German brothers Netter & Jacobi, trading as Wolf Netter & Jacobi who had a branch in Strassburg which was then part of the German Alsace. The company also had a rolling mill in Finnentrop , which produced sheet metal, it was one of the most efficient in Germany. With a total annual production of 70,000 tons, Wolf Netter & Jacobi was the largest company of its kind on the European mainland at the time. Following the defeat of Germany in the First World War in 1918, the facilities in Alsace and thus around 80% of the company's assets were lost. The headquarters came to Berlin.

The Strafor brand continues in the now French city of Strasbourg and later the company creates a division, Strafor, devoted to the production of quality steel office furniture. The company produced products such as filing and document cabinets, shelving and lockers all of which are consider some of the finest industrial and machine age design.

Condition Report

The cabinet has been striped inside and out, the inside of each compartment has been cleaned and coated with satin black paint. The outside has been lightly brushed and given several coats of clear lacquer. There are some dents and age marks in places and a couple of handles have some slight mishaping, all on the compartments open and close smoothly.
