He invented a modern adjustable spanner  (patents in 1891 and 11 May 1892). He obtained over 100 patents in total.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe was born in Vårgårda in western Sweden, the oldest of six children in a crofter's family. His was first employed as an assistant operator of a steam engine at a local peat factory. He left Vårgårda at age 19, in 1873, for Motala to work as a navvy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFollowing military service in 1874, he moved to Eskilstuna where he worked for the Bolinder-Munktell factory, and in 1878 he moved to Västerås where he found employment at a mechanical workshop. Following that, he worked as a blacksmith at a nearby farm. He eventually decided to start his own business and, in 1886, moved to Enköping where he started Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad (the Mechanical Workshop of Enköping) which quickly became a successful venture. It was during the years in his workshop that he invented the adjustable spanner and the plumber wrench.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1890, B.A. Hjorth \u0026amp; Company agreed to distribute his tools worldwide under the \"Bahco\" trademark. The Bahco tools became greatly successful, and the company is still in operation and has manufactured over 100 million wrenches to date. It begins by sourcing the best quality cast iron bases. We focus on bases from Western Europe and from the period of the late 19th century to the early 20th century. We focus on the shape, style and the quality of the casting; the bases come from a variety of sources, some were used as machine bases from factories and workshops and others for farm equipment.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWe begin by sandblasting the bases, this removes years of dirt, grease and very often many bad paint jobs! We then burnish them, this removes any remaining paint and smooths any coarseness from the sandblasting process. After a good dust and clean the bases are given several coats of clear lacquer, - for this we use an acrylic lacquer, the same type used in the manufacturing and restoration of cars.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eOnce the bases are complete its time to move onto the tops and for our table tops we use a 3 plank planed Idigbo hardwood. The 3 planks are cut and planed and then clamped and glued into place. After everything has set the top is then sanded.
